There are gorgeous photos all over social media, but how do you know who will be a good fit as your Utah wedding photographer? There are 3 things that you should consider as you begin your search.
1. Are they passionate about photographing weddings?
It seems most wedding photographers say they had a great time working with the couple. But a wedding is about so much more than that. Does the potential photographer love working with people? Do they take the time to get to know your family so they can watch for special moments? How much importance do they place on documenting such a huge day in your history? Do they value vendor relationships and work well with them to make sure your day goes smoothly? Are they doing what they love or is it just another day on the job?
2. How much experience do they have?
This one is obvious, but make sure your Utah wedding photographer has experience with different situations, and the ability to problem solve. One of the top things I would think about is lighting. Most photographers are experienced in natural light, but confirm that they are comfortable with flash. Artificial lighting is often necessary, especially at receptions, and can transform an okay photo into an amazing photo. Another important consideration is customer service. Even if a wedding photographer is newer to the business, many have a background in customer service and can provide the experience you are looking for. Last but not least, are they able to tell the story of your wedding day? Do they include all the little details that support the story?
3. Would you enjoy working with them?
Another obvious question, but do you both get along with the potential photographer? I’ve heard many stories of couples who loved a photographer’s work, but didn’t take the time to get to know them personally. These couples were left disappointed that their personality wasn’t captured as they had hoped. Does the candidate make you feel comfortable enough to be yourself in front of the camera? Are they able to create an environment where you have time alone to enjoy the quiet moments? Can you trust them to provide answers to your questions and to treat others at the wedding like they treat you?
There are so many things to consider, but in my experience, thinking about these 3 questions will be a great start! They apply to all wedding vendors, not just photographers. Best of luck making this important decision!
